Service Length by Branch
Mandatory service in Korea currently lasts 18 months in the Army and Marine Corps, 20 months in the Navy, and 21 months in the Air Force. Social service agents, who serve in public institutions instead of active duty, also serve 21 months. These lengths were set in the 2018 reduction plan that was fully applied to enlistees from 2020 onward.
How the Date Is Calculated
Your discharge date is the enlistment date plus the service length, minus one day, because the day you enlist counts as your first day of service. Someone who joins the Army on 6 January 2025 is discharged on 5 July 2026. When the target month is shorter, such as February, the date falls on the last day of that month.
What Can Change the Date
The calculated date is the standard end of service. Disciplinary confinement can extend it, while some soldiers leave earlier because of medical or family hardship reviews. Leave taken right before discharge, often called the last leave, does not change the official date but lets many soldiers go home sooner.
Using the Countdown
The D-day count and progress bar update every time you calculate, so you can bookmark this page and check back. Families and partners often use the countdown to plan visits, care packages, and the welcome-home day. All dates are calculated on your device and nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere.
